Writing to Politicians
- Courtesy: Be polite. Letters containing
overt anger/hostility and/or name-calling are largely ineffective.
- Begin your letter, thanking the
politician for the hard work he/she does daily, on behalf of the constituency.
- Try to keep letters to one page.
Write briefly and clearly on one issue.
- Don't simply criticize. Help the elected official do a better job: Give
the politician a workable idea:
Since you are critical of a political position or a potential political
decision on an issue, offer the politician the positive alternative of
a practical solution – one
which backs your position.
- As you conclude your correspondence, thank
the politician sincerely once again for their attention to your
letter.
- Keep on praying for the politician and assure them that they have your prayers.
